Description:

The aim of this project is to help to prepare for social life children with major mental development disorder or various development disorders. This is done by elaborating education programme in such training support method as tactile stimulation. Other activities included: production of handbook about significance of tactile communication in child development; educational film about practical implementation of tactile stimulation; promotion of implementation of tactile stimulation method in education system of Latvia.

This method has been adopted from Sweden and for the first time implemented in Latvia.

Effectiveness:

The training programme was accepted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia as tool for increasing professional qualification, supporting implementation of the method in education system.

Dissemination:

To promote project results following activities have been implemented:
• Brochure “Tactile stimulation – support method for special education" (1000 copies).
• Book “Significance of tactile communication in child development. Touch me!” (1000 copies).
• Educational film about the method (100 DVD copies)
• Books, brochure and DVD distributed free of charge to teachers, parents, government and municipality institutions, NGOs and libraries.
• A conference was organised with participation of 182 specialists.
In seminars organised overall Latvia more than 170 participants took part.

Other:

Tactile stimulation is deliberate, structured touch that activates the skin, our first and largest sensory organ. It is neuropsychological and neurophysiologic therapeutic method. Tactile stimulation is used with persons having brain functioning, mental development and/or physical disorders, autism or autism similar features
