NGO

Description:

The dance group joins children with functional disabilities, children and youngsters with special needs as well as their parents. The main idea is that children are dancing together with their parents. This idea has been adopted from Germany. It is dance therapy.
Dances that we are dancing are original, as the dance teacher is staging them especially for our dance group. The most important is that we can act all together and that we have this wonderful opportunity to be together rather than staying alone with pour problems and pain. The largest beneficiaries are our children and youngsters who can dance and meet each other. The dance group meets twice a month on Saturdays as on working days our dancers are studying at schools and not only in Madona county but also in comprehensive and specialised schools in other counties.
We dance together, participate in sport activities and travel together.

Selection criteria:
Innovativeness:

We are different because we involve the whole family in our activities. Everything everywhere together!

Effectiveness:

Organisation “We for our children” was established by Ingrīda Evalone in 1999. At the beginning it was hard to gather and convince parents. There was no support from the neighbouring. At the beginning of dance group it had 8 participants. With their activities the dance group and association stimulated other people with similar needs and interests to join the association and dance. Now there are 22 members at the dance group.

Satisfaction:

Here are quotations from some members of the dance group:
- ”I am in the dance group since the beginning. It is very, very good for me here. It is such fun, fun and again fun! “
- ”Involvement in the dancing has given and is still giving a lot! We feel support, have gained new friends, confidence that we can more than we have thought. I am dancing with my daughter. We are backed meeting with people with similar problems and, of course, being together, dancing, sports, camping, seminars and travel FOR ALL TOGETHER! We are very, very happy, that we are together with dance group.”
- “We were living at home. Everything was burdening. Life was irritating, unbearable. I did not want anything even to live. Then Lienīte drom dance group invited us to an excursion with the dance group to Slovakia. After trip and after seeing what little dancers can do, we also wanted to try id we can do it. And since we have joined the dance group, our life has turned upside-down. We feel happy! And what’s most important, Matīss can’t wait when we will go to Madona to Lienīte to dance and meet friends. Matīss likes being together. He has become more reasonable and disciplined. He acts differently at home and the family feels happy about that. We understood that we can and we are able to do much more that we thought. Meeting others we understand that we are not alone and that together we are strong!””

Dissemination:

Information about activities is regularly disseminated trough local newspaper Stars, as well is available at county municipality.
Closer contacts between families are created and strengthened during seminars, meetings. We are open to new co-operation and contacts!

Exploitation:

Other NGOs are welcome to use our work methods. We are open to any co-operation.
